The hours of opening for businesses, shops and government offices vary between winter and summer, with many being closed during the hottest part of the afternoon in summer time. Government offices, private businesses and shops don't keep the same hours. Opening hours also vary depending on the location, whether urban, tourist or rural. Below is a very general guide to office, shopping and banking hours. Public servicesThe winter period runs from September 1 to June 30
The summer period runs from July 1 to August 31
Banks (hours open to the public)The winter period runs from September 1 to April 30

Banks are closed weekends and public holidays. Many banks in central tourist areas are open in the afternoons specifically to provide services to tourists.
