Information on transportation options in the south of the island of Cyprus, including bus and taxi service.
Public transport in Cyprus is limited. There is no train service available. There are inter-urban public bus services connecting major towns, urban buses which run within most larger towns and tourist centres, and rural buses connecting smaller villages to their nearest towns. Buses are not consistent in appearance, though the destination is usually displayed in the windscreen. Bus time tables and schedules are available from tourist offices or directly from the bus companies. Be aware that services stop early daily (at approximately 18:00) and there is limited bus service on weekends (some areas have no service on Sundays). Bus fare is paid directly to the bus driver; exact change is required. Shared and private taxi services provide an alternative method of transport with the options being: shared interurban service taxis, rural taxis and urban taxis. Island-wide Bus ServicesVarious bus companies link all major towns with a regular service leaving every one or two hours. There is limited bus service on Sunday with some routes having no service at all. Bicycles can be taken on some of busses serving the main intercity routes. There are three stations for busses in Limassol, though intercity service is usually offered from the KEMEK bus station at Enoseos and Eirinis Street, and the Kallenos bus station at the intersection of Hadjipavlou Street and Araouzou Street. Urban BusesWithin urban areas, buses run on fixed routes roughly every half hour, with services ending in the evenings at about 18:00 Monday to Friday and earlier on Saturdays. Some routes have no service on Sundays. Hours are extended until midnight during the tourist season. Timetables are available from tourist offices or directly from the bus companies. NicosiaThe municipality of Nicosia runs Yellow Buses which offer free transportation within the city walls. The Nicosia Bus Company also offers service throughout the area.
PaphosThe Alepa Limites Pafos City Bus has an intercity service for Paphos, Limassol, Nicosia; an urban service in Paphos and airport routes to both Larnaca and Nicosia International airports.
Bus stationsThere are three stations for busses in Limassol, though most urban busses use the station at Andreas Themistocleous Street in the city centre. Intercity service is offered from the KEMEK bus station at Enoseos and Eirinis Street, and the Kallenos bus station at the intersection of Hadjipavlou Street and Araouzou Street.

Island-wide Shared Service TaxisIntercity taxi service is offered in shared 4- to 8-seater minibuses. This service provides a connection service between all major towns at a fixed rate. The taxis do not operate between smaller towns and villages. These taxis can either be boarded from the service taxi office in town or another pick-up location. Reservations are necessary. Passengers may be dropped off anywhere in the destination municipal zone. Payment is made to the driver. The service runs every half hour Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays from 07:00 to 17:00. Urban TaxisUrban taxis provide 24-hour-a-day service in all cities. Taxis can be hired from the street although it is advisable to telephone to book the taxi to ensure availability. Fares are metered after an initial base charge and the metered rate is based on a fixed rate chart. Taxi fares are regulated by law.
In Nicosia, a taxi rank is available at Eleftheria Square (City Centre), with taxis available at all times. Rural TaxisRural taxis serve villages and small towns. The pick up and drop-off points can only be from the taxi base station unless taking a taxi from the taxi rank at the airport or seaport.
