Monday 9th April 2007High Days and HolidaysPublic holiday, bank holiday, call it what you will,
long weekends like the Easter break can be a worker's beacon on the
annual calendar. Some days, like the upcoming Labour Day/Workers Day
holiday of May 1 are widely observed; others, such as the May Pentecost
holiday are religious and apply to several countries, while the national
days are just that, uniquely national! State and schoolWhile most schools, banks and many shops will close on these days, emergency services, police and hospitals remain open for business and the names, addresses and telephone numbers of pharmacies open on public holidays are listed in the daily papers.
