Updated sky viewing cards

Hi,

In the last few weeks, we've had a message popping up on our TV screen every couple of days asking us to insert our new sky viewing card. When I got in touch with our satellite guy, he informed us that the agent he got all the cards from in the UK has gone bankrupt and we'll have to pay E150 to get a new one. It hardly seems fair that something that is distributed free from sky should be charged (again). Yes I know that sky is not legal over here and I know that a lot of people now use the internet to watch terrestrial channels from the UK. I don't have a laptop but I do have a great big dish on the roof of my house that cost me a lot of money a few years ago! Does anyone know if I can get an updated card without having to re-buy the package?! Has anyone else been given a card from their provider without any hassle?

Many thanks, Soulla.

Sky are replacing all the pay cards free and sending them to the registered address of the card.

If you used a third party then obviously they have the address and its down to them to get the card and send it to you. Some charge less ,some charge more, depends how many middlemen are involved

If the third party has gone out of business or passed away there is not much you can do but if it is a pay card you will still be charged because as far as sky are concerned, you have received your card and are using it.

You can't call sky as they will want the registered address. Thats why these companies charge a fee for doing it all for you.

I advise anybody interested in starting a pay package to use their own(or friend/relative) address so that in the future they will have control of their own account. sky have done a card change before and they will probably do it again.

As for free to view cards, they are available from sky for 20 pounds sterling and it has to be sent to an address in UK. When your card goes off you will lose Five,Fiver,Fiver Usa, Sky three and the new strong itv's.The rest work without a card.

Simon - looking at your last response and reading between the lines a little, are you saying that there are new stronger ITV signals that are only obtainable using a sky free-to-air card?? I am currently using a visionnet f7100 box without a card and have problems with ITV at 7pm and 9pm local time. Will this be solved if I change to a box with card and use a sky free-to-air card?? If so, what's a good (cheap) box??

A good quality sky digibox will tune into a strong ITV and CH4 only with a card inserted. Finding a digibox is no problem but sky are in the process of replacing ALL their blue cards with the new white cards. Unfortunately only the pay customers will receive the new ones free of charge through the post but you can purchase a free to view/freesat card from sky but they only supply to UK addresses. They are about 20 pounds sterling.

Or maybe the new line booster on your long sat cable has improved your current ITV. ;-)

Sadly the new line booster has not achieved the desired results, in fact tonight was even worse than usual ... with BBC1 and 2 giving problems from 8.30 and ITV eventually getting so bad that the box (not a sky one) reset itself .....
